Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is a painful condition caused by inflammation of the tendons in the forearm due to overuse or repetitive strain. It’s not limited to athletes—anyone performing repeated wrist or arm movements can develop it.
What starts as mild discomfort can gradually weaken grip strength and interfere with everyday tasks. But why does the pain persist in some and resolve in others? Ayurveda offers a deeper perspective on this, focusing on the body’s internal balance and long-term healing.

From an Ayurvedic viewpoint, tennis elbow is primarily a Vata dosha disorder affecting the tendons and muscles of the arm. Vata governs movement and the flow of prana (vital energy) in the body, but when it is aggravated it can cause excessive dryness and loss of strength in the musculoskeletal system.
Repetitive strain or sudden injury to the elbow can vitiate Vata at the site of the tendons. This Vata aggravation leads to stagnation and inflammation (known as Snayugata Vata) in the tendon tissues, causing pain, swelling and reduced mobility.
Ayurveda treatment also recognizes that factors like inadequate warm nourishment, overexertion of the arm, and exposure to cold can exacerbate Vata and worsen tennis elbow.
Tennis Elbow Treatment in Ayurveda includes ayurvedic medicines and targeted Panchakarma therapies to reduce inflammation and strengthen tendons.
Key factors that can lead to tennis elbow in Ayurveda include:

Ayurvedic Therapy
Dietary Modification
