Vasti

Vasti is an Ayurvedic therapy that involves the administration of medicated oils or herbal decoctions through the rectal canal. Vasti is both therapeutic and nourishing, designed to eliminate accumulated toxins (Ama) and balance Vata dosha, which is primarily seated in the colon. It is widely regarded as the most effective treatment for chronic constipation, neurological disorders, joint problems, and degenerative diseases.

Who can benefit?

Who can benefit?

Thalam is particularly beneficial for those dealing with:

  • Stress, anxiety, and irritability – Induces a deeply calming and grounding effect.
  • Headaches and migraines – Especially those triggered by heat, tension, or mental strain.
  • Insomnia or disturbed sleep – Promotes restful sleep by relaxing the nervous system.
  • Hyperactivity or restlessness – Helps balance overactive thoughts and emotional agitation.
  • Pitta-related imbalances – Cooling herbs help reduce internal heat and inflammation.

Endocrine or hormonal disturbances – Supports hormonal regulation through head–brain connection.

How is it done?

Thalam is performed with focus and care in the following stages:

Preparation Stage – The scalp is gently cleaned, and the dosha condition is assessed to select the appropriate herbal paste. Cooling and calming herbs like Brahmi Amalaki Jatamansi or Sandalwood are used.

Main Procedure – A small, round portion of thick herbal paste is applied directly to the crown of the head, often placed in a small leaf or cup. It is left undisturbed for 30–45 minutes to allow its effects to penetrate the brain centers and subtle channels.

Post-Therapy Care & Recovery – The paste is gently removed, and the head is cleaned with warm water or a mild herbal decoction. The individual is advised to avoid exposure to wind, cold, or sun immediately after treatment.
